21 Participants Gained Benefits from the Data Storytelling Workshop
The Data Storytelling Workshop concluded successfully two weeks ago. Co-organized by Oneworld Hanxin College and Newsgraphy, the event attracted 21 members of the public. The workshop was led by Dexter Chan, founder of Newsgraphy. A graduate of the Department of Mass Communication at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Chan has extensive experience in media and data application, having previously worked in journalism.
During the workshop, Chan pointed out that data is not just cold numbers, nor is it as complex as it seems. In fact, data is indispensable in people's daily lives. With the right methods, it's possible to present the stories, trends, and concepts behind the data in a simple and easy-to-understand way.
He further shared diverse channels for data acquisition, the application logic of different chart types, and demonstrated various practical data visualization tools to help participants build basic data expression skills.
In the final session of the workshop, participants worked in groups to practice interpreting data using their newly acquired knowledge and creating their own charts, thereby enhancing their understanding and application skills.
In the future, Oneworld Hanxin College will continue to launch more related courses and activities, and welcomes continued public attention and participation.
