“It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World” 40th Anniversary|Director Clifton Ko Collaborates with Hanxin College to Produce Malaysia's Version

Renowned Hong Kong director Clifton Ko has announced a partnership with Oneworld Hanxin College and Hanxin Pictures to produce ”It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad World“, a new film inspired by the classic Hong Kong Chinese New Year comedy It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World, in celebration of its 40th anniversary. Filming is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with a release targeted for the 2027 Chinese New Year slot.

Ko emphasized that The Return is not a remake. Instead, it is an entirely new original story inspired by the classic film, reimagined within a Malaysian setting. The movie follows a family who unexpectedly wins RM100 million in the lottery, sparking a series of hilarious yet heartwarming family adventures.

The film will be shot primarily in Kuala Lumpur, featuring cross-departmental creative and production participation from Oneworld Hanxin College and Hanxin Pictures. Director Clifton Ko will serve as the head screenwriter, co-creating the script with three screenwriters from Oneworld Hanxin College

Oneworld Hanxin College cum Hanxin Pictures Managing Director Tan In Fong stated at the press conference that this collaboration is highly significant for the institution, marking an important milestone in bridging education and the professional film industry. He expressed gratitude to Director Ko and the production team for their trust, and called on all sectors of society to support this new film that showcases Malaysia’s filmmaking strength.

“Over the past 38 years, the college has nurtured a large number of film and media talents. This project will become a new platform for students to gain hands-on experience and advance their careers,” he said.
